昭和17年12月27日、I-5がアメリカ西海岸沖で、xAK Steel Ageを撃沈しました。この船はIsthmian Cargo級(tonnage 4620, VP9)で、日本だとStd-B cargo級くらいの大きさです。ググってみると、Isthmia lineはUSスティールの子会社でxAK Steel AgeもUSスティールの持ち船でした。
撃沈した場所は西海岸からオーストラリアへの航路というメインストリート上だと思います。連合軍は相変わらず商船を独航させているようで、護衛艦からの反撃はありませんでした。これで今月、日本の潜水艦が撃沈した連合軍商船は5隻です。連合軍潜水艦は、12月3日に父島沖でPB Hitora Maruを沈めて以来、あまり見かけません。来月からアメリカの潜水艦の魚雷のdud rateが低下するので、それを控えて潜水艦はみんな港で整備しているのかも知れません。
かわりに、連合軍空軍がビルマで毎日活躍しています。先日のエントリーで昭和17年12月24日の地上部隊への爆撃をとりあげましたが、その後も25, 26, 27日と続けてShweboの空港と部隊への爆撃がありました。空港の方は一回の爆撃でサービス施設100ダメージ、滑走路98ダメージになるので連日の爆撃は不要のように思えますが、なぜか毎日のように地上部隊の爆撃だけでなく飛行場の爆撃にも来ます。サプライを消費させるためなのでしょうか。地上部隊が爆撃されるよりはましなので、なぜなのかを尋ねたりはしないつもりです。
コンバットリポートによれば、3日間の空襲による地上部隊の被害は合計で

となります。合計の死傷者数は375名ですが、死傷者数とdeviceの損害数との関係は分かりません。また、Vehicles lost 2となっていますが、Shweboにいる三つの部隊のうち、自動車を持っていそうなのは21st Medium Field Artillery BattalionのMotorized Supportだけなので、この部隊の自動車が破壊されたのでしょう。
そして、24日と今日の地上部隊のdeviceの数を比較すると

となります。空襲の被害数よりは少ないので、損害に追いついてはいませんが、それなりに補充されてはいるようです。しかし、歩兵連隊と工兵部隊のdisruptionは70台とかなり上昇したので、地上戦闘には耐えられない状態になってしまっています。
