遊びをせんとや: マンダレー夜間空襲で二式戦が地上で15機破壊

昭和17年11月16日、アンダマン海のラングーン付近でPB Taian MaruがSS KVIIに浮上砲戦を挑まれ、魚雷2本と砲弾9発命中で沈没しました。反撃して砲弾を2発命中させましたが、そこまで。独航する商船に潜水艦が浮上砲戦を挑むのはこれまでにも何度か目にしていますが、PBを相手に浮上するとはオランダには勇敢な艦長がいるものだと、アニメーションをみながら感心していました。リプレイを見終わってPB Taian Maruをチェックしてみて、その理由が分かりました。実はPB Taian Maruは10月24日、ラングーン近海に敷設された機雷に接触して大破し、ラングーン港で修理していました。しかしラングーンでは修理のできないFlt 49(49)のダメージが残り、それを修理するためシンガポールへの回航を昨日指示したところでした。手負いのPBに対しても潜水艦が浮上砲戦を挑むということのようで、勉強になりました。Flt 49(49)のダメージですから喫水線がかなり深かったのでしょうが、夜間、潜望鏡でそれを発見したわけですから、SS KVIIの艦長は勇敢なだけでなく怜悧な人なんでしょう。

月明かり50%以上で夜間爆撃解禁というHRを採用しているので、今日からまた夜間爆撃の2週間が始まります。まずはカルカッタ方面からマンダレーにLiberator II 4機、B-25C Mitchell 18機、B-24D Liberator 27機、B-17E Fortress 22機、合計71機が11波に分かれて来襲。どうも新しいベータパッチをあててから、攻撃隊がひとまとまりではなく、ばらばらに分かれて来襲する傾向が強まった印象を持っています。これ、もし本当にそうだとしたら、防御の強力な連合軍爆撃機には余り影響がないでしょうが、脆弱な爆撃機・攻撃機しかない日本側にとっては重大問題です。また、空母戦では双方にとって大きな影響があるでしょうね。

さて、マンダレーの隣りのヘクスのメイクテーラと距離2ヘクスのマグエに配備してある二式戦と二式複戦に夜間のCAPを指示してあったのですが、マンダレー上空には日本機の機影なし。リプレイの終了後に夜間CAPのmaximum rangeをチェックしましたが、マンダレーも充分に範囲内の設定がされていました。どうしてCAPがいなかったのかは謎。ただ、先月も感じたことですが、夜間の空襲に対しては、目標となるヘクス配備の戦闘機しかCAPしてくれない傾向がたしかにあると思います。バグなのか？それとも、夜間にレーダーを装備していない戦闘機だからなのか？そのあたりは不明ですが。

CAPがいないと爆撃し放題。Airbase hits 18、Airbase supply hits 10、Runway hits 42に加えて、痛かったは地上で二式戦が15機も破壊されたことです。マンダレーの二式戦は昼間の爆撃に対するCAPを指示してあり、疲労も少ないし、moraleも99あったのがなんと16まで下がってしまいました。死傷者もKIA 2名、WIA 3名。やむを得ず、ラングーンに下げて休養をとらせることにしました。

11波も来襲され、しかもやられ放題だとアニメーションをみるのもつらいもの。Escキーでアニメーションを早送りし、アニメ後に表示される戦闘のリポートのウィンドウもEscキーで閉じて次の戦闘に移るようにしていました。Windows 7の新PCになって以来、そのEscキーの反応が鈍い感じがします。Escキーを押してからウィンドウが閉じるまでに一呼吸あるんです。XPの旧PCの時はすぐに閉じていたと思うんですが、みなさんのところではいかがでしょう？

ビルマ戦線だけではなく、ラバウルに対してもポートモレスビーから夜間の空襲がありました。こちらは二式水戦(A6M2-N Rufe)と二式複戦(Ki-45 KAIa Nick)がCAPに上がっていました。B-17F Fortress 10機とB-17E Fortress 10機が4波に分かれて来襲したのですが、CAPがいたおかげで命中弾は2発のみ。ひとつはPort hits 1でこれは問題なし。ところがもう一発はよりにもよって港にdisbandしてあったACM Kaito Maruに命中してしまいました。規模6と広いラバウル港に在泊する艦船はACM Kaito Maru一隻なのに、高度7000フィートからの夜間の水平爆撃で命中するもんなんでしょうかね。ラバウル港に連合軍の空襲の脅威があることは以前から承知しているで、コンボイが入港してもサプライの陸揚げが終わればさっさと帰途につかせています。それなのにACMが在泊していたのは、ラバウル港の防御機雷のお世話をさせるためです。500ポンド爆弾一発命中でSys 29, Flt 2(2), Eng 3(1)のダメージを受けてしまいましたが、これだと機雷のお世話は無理ですよね。とりあえずpierside modeで修理してみることにしました。代わりをつとめられるACMが近くにはいないので、しばらく機雷の減ってゆくのはやむを得ません。

バリクパパンからサイパンへfuelを輸送するコンボイがマカッサル水道でSS O16に攻撃され、xAK Yoshida Maru #3に魚雷が一本命中しました。一本でも積載していたfuelが燃え始め、沈没してしまいました。本当にセレベス島の南に迂回した方が安全で、タンカーのコンボイはそちらを航行しさせています。でもマカッサル水道を通過する商船がいないと、連合軍も不審に感じるだろうと思うので、xAKのコンボイはあえてここを通過させることにしています。でも、犠牲が出るのは残念。ここを通過させるのは帰りの空荷のコンボイだけの方がいいかも。

数日前にオーストラリア西岸のBroomeに連合軍の商船が入港しました。その後も滞在していて、なにかを荷下ろししているようです。ここはAir HQと陸攻の配備されているチモール島のクーパンから距離11ヘクスで、ゼロ戦(A6M3b)の護衛で雷撃できる場所です。一昨日も昨日も陸攻の攻撃を待っていたのですが、飛んでくれません。しかたがないので、近くにいたSS I-123を派遣したところ、xAKL Prominentを攻撃して撃沈してくれました。偵察機の報告だとTKがいるということだったのですが、xAKLでした。もしかするとTKとxAKLと複数いて、xAKLの方を攻撃してしまったのかも知れません。Broomeには3360名の連合軍将兵がいますが、ここは連合軍の主要な根拠地からは離れていて、陸路でサプライが送られてこないのだろうと思います。ですからニューギニア東部で日本側がしているように、xAKLでカミカゼ的にサプライを輸送したのかもしれません。でもTKやxAKLでfuelを輸送してきて、ここで潜水艦がfuelを補給するという方が日本側としては脅威です。どっちだったんでしょう。
