昭和17年11月24日、ラバウルにポートモレスビーからではなくTerapoから夜間空襲がありました。1119eをあててから初めてのリプレイで、空襲のfragmentationが解消していることを期待しましたが、このラバウルへの空襲は四発爆撃機69機(B-17E Fortress 23機、B-17F Fortress 11機、B-24D Liberator 35機)が10波に分かれて来襲しました。1波だけは2機種が同時にやってきたのですが、その他は1機種ずつだったのでfragmentationが改善したのかどうかは不明です。まあ、もともと夜間空襲は五月雨的にくるものだったので、fixされてもこんなものなのかもしれませんが。
戦闘の方は、二式水戦(A6M2-N Rufe)13機と二式複戦(Ki-45 KAIa Nick)11機が迎撃しましたが、成績はだめだめ。日本機は空戦で14機、地上で6機が破壊され、Airbase hits 4、Runway hits 26の被害があったのに、Trackerをみると米軍爆撃機の方の損失は報告されていません。20機くらいの損失は程度の機体の生産は可能ですが、これが毎日続くのは中の人の士気にも大きく響きますから、可能なら損失は元から絶ちたいもの。Terapoはポートモレスビーよりだいぶ西なので、蘭印側からの艦砲射撃も試みてみたくはあります。でも、トレス海峡のまん中にあるHorn Islandには魚雷艇が本当にたくさんいるので、主力艦の投入は考えちゃうところ。昨日今日のように月明100%ちかい日でで危ないような気がします。
その後、ウエーク島にBB New Mexico・Idaho、CA Vincennes・Astoria・New Orleansによる上陸支援射撃がありました。ウエーク島にはCDが存在しているものと想定して、上陸船団に戦艦を2隻を入れたんだろうと思います。守備側の舞鶴第2特別陸戦隊はこの艦砲射撃でほとんどがdestroyedまたはdisabledにされてしまった感じです。ついで上陸が実施されましたが、連合軍側の死傷者は5名とわずかで、定跡通りprep 100%にしてあった模様。しかしその後「太平洋の島々に興味のある石頭の連合軍の兵隊さん、大本営発表によると愚かな連合軍がウエーク島に上陸を試みて数千の将兵が水漬く屍になっちゃいましたよ」といった内容のラジオ東京の放送が流れました。東京ローズの声は久しぶりですが、日本側の負け戦でも流れるとは知りませんでした。
ウエーク島に上陸したのはアメリカル師団の3分の1ていどと1個大隊で素のAV 172でした。上陸した部隊の主力には一個師団を3分割してできたユニットに表示される/Aがついていました。離島とはいえ、必要最小限の戦力の投入で済まされてしまったわけですが、思い起こせば半年前、昭和17年7月11日に2nd Marine Raider Bnの一部がおそらく潜水艦でウエーク島に上陸し、撃退した戦闘がありました。その時の戦闘でこちらの戦力を把握してあり、安心して節約したのかなとも思われます。対する防御側のAVは事前の砲撃の影響で16まで減っていました。離島への上陸戦はshock attackが強制されて、修正AV 83対1、オッズ比83対1でウエーク島守備隊は玉砕し、修理中の二式大艇1機も破壊されてしまいました。ウエーク陥落はまあしかたがないことです。でも、あらためてマップを見渡すと、ウエーク島という外套がなくなると本土が寒い感じで、位置的に南鳥島の重要性を再認識させられました。これで南鳥島も失うとなると、ルンガやラバウルやトラックを保持していても意味がなくなってしまいます。あと、千島ももしかすると連合軍の目標に入っていたりするのかな。
