メイクテーラに大きな空襲というエントリーlで触れたニューギニア島東部のワウですが、11月6日から合計3回の攻撃を受けましたがボロボロになりながらもなんとか防衛に成功しています。また同じ11月6日のメイクテーラ上空での激戦は連合軍にとっても損失が大きかったためでしょうか、ビルマ方面での連合軍の航空作戦はしばらくお休み中です。できれば、なべて世はこともなしと書きたいところですが、お相手の方も安心させてはくれません。
昭和17年11月11日、リプレイのしょっぱなに触雷音が響きました。触雷はアニメーションがなく効果音だけなので、どっちに被害が出たのかと思っていると、DD Kiyonamiが伊豆大島で触雷したと表示されました。伊豆大島というとちょっと遠い感じがしますが、横浜・横須賀・相模湾のヘクスのすぐ南に隣接していて、東京湾の入り口のヘクスです。こんなところに機雷を敷設されるというのは、日本海軍にとってはドーリットル空襲並のスキャンダルです。DD Kiyonamiはさいわい沈没はせず横須賀まで辿り着きました。しかしSys 22, Flt 56(43), Eng 38(35)とダメージが大きく、3週間ほどドック入りすることになりました。
ラングーンへの機雷敷設で2隻沈没1隻大破1隻炎上中というエントリーで、10月24日にラングーン港入口部に敷設された機雷で大きな被害が出たことを書いたことがあります。その後、10月30日にスマトラ島東岸のメダンのすぐ南のヘクスに機雷が敷設されているのを発見し、処理しました。こちらは幸いに被害がありませんでした。この二つの機雷敷設作戦を検討してみると、ラングーンはビルマの地上部隊へサプライを届けるコンボイが頻繁に入港し、またメダンは原油を積み込むタンカーが入港する港で、どちらも艦船の出入りの多いところを狙った犯行でした。ラングーンが10月24日でメダンが10月30日と時間差がありましたが、おそらく2隻は同じ時期にセイロン島のツリンコマリーあたりを出航していて、目的地への距離の差で機雷敷設時期がずれたのだろうと推測しました。
そう考えると、WitP AEではインド洋も太平洋も一人のプレイヤーが統一して指揮していますから、同じ頃にこの機雷敷設作戦を思い付いたお相手の方が、まだ他の潜水艦に別方面で同様の作戦を指示した可能性に思い当たります。他に機雷を敷設するのにふさわしい艦船の通行量の多い浅海ヘクスというと、第一はシンガポールからのコンボイが香港に出入りするあたり。そして、2番目にはポートモレスビーを攻略されて以来、トラックへ向かうコンボイが頻繁に行き交うこの東京湾の入り口が候補にあがります。トラック行き・帰りのコンボイは、潜水艦を避けるため、鳥島の浅海ヘクスと、青ヶ島から東京湾まで続く浅海ヘクスを選んで航海するよう指示してありますから、ここいらに機雷を敷設されると嫌だなと思いました。その対策として、まずは潜水艦を発見するために青ヶ島にASWスキル70のパイロットを揃えた零式水偵24機の飛行隊を配備し、発見した潜水艦を追い払うためにType 2 Depth Chargeを装備した初春・夕雲級の駆逐艦にASWパトロールを指示し、そして機雷を敷設されてもすぐに処理できるようAMcからなるLoacl Mine Sweeping TFに伊豆諸島の浅海ヘクスのパトロールを指示しておいたのでした。
伊豆大島はミッドウエイやアリューシャンの米軍潜水艦基地からはかなり遠いので、機雷の敷設時期がラングーンやメダンよりずっと遅くなったと考えると、相手の意図の推定としては正しかったし、対策としてもこれ以上の措置はなかなか難しいでしょう。人事は尽くしたと思うんですが、天命は機雷の敷設されたヘクスをAMcより先にASW TFの駆逐艦が通過させるというものでした。今日はアンボンへの輸送任務を終えて帰る途中のAMC Awata Maruがハルマヘラ島東岸でSS Sharkに雷撃されて魚雷が一本命中し、Sys 12, Flt 46(37)のダメージを受けた事件もあり、本当についてないなと感じた一日でした。
話は変わりますが、ニューヘブリデス諸島のLakatoroに空母の在泊が報告されています。実はこのLakatoroには昨日11月10日にも空母が存在しているという偵察報告があり、それを確認するために2日続けて偵察させたのです。偵察機はルンガに配置してある百式司偵で、パイロットはみんなReconスキル70以上、二日ともDetection Level 9/10ですから、ふつうなら信用すべきなんでしょうが、状況的になかなか信じ難いものがあります。ASW用のCVEが補給のために立ち寄ったとかでしょうかね。もし本当に空母がいるのだとしても手出しして確認できないのが残念なところです。
PCを変更して5日たちましたが、WitP AEは落ちることなく動いてくれています。お相手の方はしばしばクラッシュするそうで、私のところでもPBEM第一戦の頃はしょっちゅう突然落ちていましたが、いつからか落ちなくなりました。あとTrackerの表示までの秒数は130-140秒台を示しています。以前のPCだと300ターンを超えたこのごろは140秒台後半でしたから、Javaの実行は一割りくらい速くなっているようです。
