昭和17年11月13日、11日の伊豆大島に引き続き、今日はパレンバン沖に敷設された機雷で大きな被害が出ました。PB Takunan Maru #8とPB Bisan Maru #3(ともにVP 2、tonnage 215)が沈没。PB Kasyu Maruが大破し、xAK Koyo Maru、xAK Achou Maru、TK Ayazono Maruの3隻は大破炎上中です。xAK Koyo MaruはFltダメージ 82と大きいのですが、隣りのヘクスがパレンバンですから、なんとか辿り着けるだろうと思います。ただ、xAK Achou MaruはFire 33と火災が激しいので、鎮火できずに沈没してしまう可能性があります。うっとうしいこと限りない連合軍の機雷ですが、いまのところ敷設しにくる潜水艦を防ぐこともできないし、AMcを航路に沿ってパトロールさせるのではなく、敷設されそうなヘクスすべてに配置するくらいでしょうかね。なんとも処置なし。
10月12日にもこの同じヘクスで5隻が触雷する大きな被害を受けました。沈まなかった艦船はパレンバン港にdisbandして修理し、一番被害の大きかったTK Ogura Maru #3もパレンバンでの修理は終了しました。パレンバンでの修理の手助けにシンガポールからARを移動させてありありましたが、修理が終わったのでシンガポールに戻そうかと思っていた矢先に今回の事件です。ARにはまだしばらくパレンバンで働いてもらうことになりました。
ビルマ戦線では、マグエ(Magwe、梅本弘さんのビルマ航空戦にマグエと訳してあったのでそれにならいます)からチッタゴンに二式戦(Ki-44-IIa Tojo)3個戦隊、合計125機がsweepを実施しました。125機がまとまってsweepしてほしかったところですが、3波に分かれてのsweepでした。3個戦隊だから3つなんでしょう。チッタゴンのCAPはMartlet II 32機、Hurricane IIc Trop 35機、P-39D Airacobra 8機、P-40K Warhawk 26機の合計111機。リプレイを見ていると、アニメーションは3回とも二式戦がsweepするシーンで終わっていたので、かなりの戦果が期待しました。しかしTrackerで確認してみると、二式戦の損失18機(A2A 16機、Ops loss 2機)に対して、CAPの損失18機(A2A 12機、Ops loss 6機)とスコアは互角。高度25000でsweepしたのですが、これがいけなかったのか。参加した機数では優っていても、sweepは3波仁和枯れて逐次投入のかたちになってしまい、各空戦では数的に劣勢だったからなのか。いずれにせよ、CAPにP-38のいない空戦で、sweep機よりCAP機の撃墜数が少なかったのは非常に残念です。KIA 9名、WIA 1名、MIA 4名と合計14名の死傷者も、自軍の飛行場上空で戦った連合軍側より多いはずですから、実質的には敗北というところです。多数の触雷被害ともあわせて、今日はフラストレーションのたまる一日でした。
