Cox's bazar上空で大苦戦


ビルマ沿岸の連合軍基地ですが、Cox’s Bazarの飛行場が5に拡張され、戦闘機が配備されるようになりました。ChittagongやImphalは遠いので放っておきますが、Cox’s bazarとAkaybはMagwe油田のあるビルマ中部平原に近く、脚の短い連合軍戦闘機でもsweepに来られるようになってしまうので、放置できない感じです。
そこで、9月9日にCox’s Bazarにsweepと飛行場爆撃をしました。sweepのOscarは連合軍戦闘機と互角のようですが、ゼロ戦は惨敗。また、空襲部隊もダメージを受けています。ゼロ戦はMagweでCAP 20, Train 10, Rest 70とPatrol Levelsを合計で100%にしてあったのですが、指揮官の判断で勝手に来てしまいました。Group MissionがEscortだったから指揮官判断で攻撃に行ったんでしょうか。勝手に攻撃に行かせないようにするには、Group MissionをNaval Attackにでもしておくべきなのでしょうね。
コンバットレポートでは日本側は合計11機がdestroyedだけですが、この日は合計33機のAir Lossでした。他の戦線での損失はoperational lossなだけのはずなので、Cox’s bazar攻撃部隊の中で帰路に墜落したり、帰還しても修理不能な機体がかなりあったのでしょう。また、この日のパイロットの死傷はMIA 9、WIA 4、KIA 11もあり、これが続くとIJAAFとIJNAFの崩壊につながります。
ともかく、Oscarとゼロ戦だけではビルマ戦線の戦闘機のいる連合軍飛行場の制圧・攻撃は無理ということが再確認できました。一日も早いTojoの登場が待たれるわけですが、生産の様子はこんな感じで、Buildingが30以上なのに0機の日が2日も続くことがあるのです。Ha-35エンジンは180台くらい在庫があるので、エンジンやHIの不足ではありません。乱数のいたずらでこんなにぶれるんでしょうか。
