昭和17年9月21日、ビルマのMagweが空襲を受けました。Magweは油田がある重要な拠点なので、飛行場は規模7まで拡張し戦闘機3飛行隊でCAPを上げていました。ただCAPはその拠点だけでなく、近隣の拠点に空襲があるとそちらの対応にも少数機が出張する仕様です。そのため、このところ連日のマンダレーの空襲の際に、MagweのCAPの戦闘機も少しづつ落とされ機数と士気が低下していました。また、CAP任務の戦闘機が全機帯空中ということはなく、しかも日本のレーダーの能力の限界でスクランブルも順調にはいきません。今日も大挙してやってくる連合軍のsweeper(内訳はHurricane IIb Trop x 56、Hurricane IIc Trop x 58、P-38E Lightning x 18、P-38F Lightning x 40、P-40K Warhawk x 16)にやられっぱなし。どの戦線でもしばらく見かけなかった(おそらくASWをさせていたのでしょう)B-17まで爆撃任務に動員して、Magwe飛行場はサービス施設ダメージが31、滑走路ダメージが45。規模7の飛行場なので一回の爆撃で閉鎖されることはありませんでしたが、明日も爆撃があると閉鎖を余儀なくされそう。また、飛行機の被害も甚大。対策としては、あと3週間ほどは雨期なので、severe stormになってくれることをお祈りするしかないのかも。
雲をかこむ黒い正方形。コンバットリプレイ中に飛行機の姿が見えない表示の不具合はよく見るのですが、この正方形は初めて見ました。
