11月になってdot baseだったKalemyoにイギリス軍ユニットがみられるようになり、先週には飛行場の規模が1になりました。ここの飛行場の規模を大きくするのは、ビルマ中部の日本側拠点のsweepや爆撃に役立てるためと、地上軍の中部ビルマ侵攻の際にサプライの陸上輸送を容易にするためなのだと思われます。ここがどんどん成長するのは困る。
ビルマの空戦のリポートを紹介しますが、下記のように昭和17年11月14日は主にMyitKyinaが爆撃されました。主に規模4以上の大きな飛行場が狙われているのですが、日替わりでB-17やB-24といった500ポンド爆弾を8~10発も搭載できる四発爆撃機にぼこぼこにされています。こちらのengineerも一生懸命に修復に励んでいるので、ビルマの全飛行場が使用不能になったりはしていませんが、同じ飛行場に続けて駐機しておくと地上で破壊される(パイロットも死傷)する可能性が高くなるので、飛行隊はあちこち移動しながら作戦しています。でも、今日もDinahを一機、地上で破壊されてしまっています。
まだビルマ南部の飛行場には空襲がないので、HelenはラングーンからAkyabを爆撃させています。そして問題のKalemyoにはTaung GyiからAnnを夜間爆撃に行かせました。Taung Gyiの飛行場の規模は3(4へ向けて工事中)なので、単発のlight bomberを引っぱり出して使っています。Annなら規模2や3の飛行場から爆撃に行けるので。
夜間空襲の報告だけ「Raid spotted at 38 NM, estimated altitude 16,000 feet. Estimated time to target is 10 minutes」という文が最後に表示される仕様はなぜなんでしょう。昼間の空襲では対象の地名と天候の次にこの表現が置かれているのに。夜間と昼間と区別するためだけでしょうか。
